This time of year can bring a lot of extra opportunities to the corporate world. Some of those are going to be good opportunities such as enjoying a corporate work party, but some of those are going to be potentially negatives, including holiday fatigue and sickness. Properly planning to navigate these areas can be really helpful to keep everything running as smoothly as possible.
Ensure employee breaks
Since the holiday season often brings last minute deadlines and extra effort, it’s a great idea to make sure that everyone is taking breaks when and where they can. Fatigue sets in faster and easier with the stress of the holiday season. From employees in an office to public workers in a retail environment, there is no safe place from holiday wear and tear.
Promote good health in the workplace
Since everyone needs money and the holiday season is the perfect example of the prime time to earn a little extra, it’s common practice for employees to come into the office even when they are sick or not well. In order to keep everyone healthy and working at top capacity, it’s important to remind employees about staying home when sick. You also may want to make sure that you keep an eye on employees who appear to be under the weather and working anyway.
Be mindful of work injuries
Whether it’s frantic energy trying to move things too quickly, or simply an abundance of stock, injuries and accidents happen more frequently around the holiday season. Make sure that employees are reminded of the need to be cautious and careful when it comes to moving stock, opening boxes, and anything else that could potentially leave them open to risk of injury.
Limit overtime
Along those same lines, you also want to try to keep an eye on overtime. Employees who are working overtime will experience a lot of work in a short amount of time, and that will lead to fatigue. Fatigue is shown to lead to more injuries on the job, as well as a stronger likelihood of damage to equipment.
Keep walkways clear and dry
As the winter months blow in with the holidays, so, too, does the bad weather. As customers and employees track in mud and water, it is not uncommon to have more slips and falls. This increases employee injury, property damage and more. Take extra caution with keeping walkways dry and clear of mud and other trip and fall risks.
A good holiday season is a safe one, and taking extra steps to keep your employees safe is always a great idea for everyone’s benefit. A little extra protection doesn’t have to take a lot of effort or cause a lot of stress. It could be just as simple as adding these little changes into your routine at the office to protect everyone’s health and well-being. Any little touch will help, and sometimes it really is the little things that make all of the difference. Surely your employees will appreciate your care for them and their health, especially over the holiday season when everyone gets so busy being busy.
