Safety Over the Holidays

Be sure your home is safe this holiday seasonFaster than any of us realize, the holiday season is coming.  It’s a time of great joy, excitement and relaxation — hopefully.  However, the holiday season also has the potential to bring more hazards into your life when it comes to safety and security for everyone and everything.  Here are some of the key things to remember as the holidays creep up, and make sure that you prepare yourself or a safe, healthy and happy holiday season whether you’re at home or on the road.

Watch for fire hazards

Fire hazards tend to be more common around the holiday season.  From overloaded circuits to faulty strands of light to unattended candles.   A fire in your home can cause all sorts of damage and put a serious damper on your holiday spirits.  Be attentive to anything that could start a fire.

Stay safe on-the-go

When you are traveling during the holidays, you’ll want to make sure that you make safety a priority.  If you are driving, make sure you have on the appropriate tires, drive for the weather conditions, and always have an emergency kit with you.  Make sure you’ve got collision coverage in case of slippery roads or the increased amounts of pedestrians out and about.  The hope is always not to have to need it, but it’s a weight off your mind to know that you are protected if you ever were to need it.

When you are traveling out of town, it’s a good idea to make sure your home is protected: put your lights on timers, have a neighbor get your mail, and make sure all windows and doors are tightly secured, even if they are on the second floor.

Make your mental health a priority

One of the most neglected parts of holiday preparation and preparedness is the amount of stress that it puts on you mentally and emotionally.  Most of us are guilty of trying to do too much during the season, and that creates an emotional and mental fatigue that can really ruin the holidays.

This year, give yourself the gift of peace and relaxation by prioritizing your to do list beforehand and making sure that you are not over-committing.  Focus on doing the things that really matter the most to you and that they recharge you.

Keep yourself protected with insurance

While there may be no “sure thing,” you can protect yourself with the right insurance policy in place to help you know that you’re protected in the worst case scenario.  Having the weight off your mind can make all of the difference.  If you’re wondering what the right fit may be for you and your loved ones, contact us today at (281) 488-8880 and we’ll help you get prepared for with the right insurance policy.
